Technically, you aren’t supposed to fall in love with your best friend’s girl.
When I was nineteen years old, I was faced with a choice that changed my life.
Keep the safety of what I already knew or risk losing everything with the young, hotheaded soldier who stole my heart.
I chose the wrong man, and for seventeen years, I paid in tears, blood, and shattered dreams for that decision.
Now, there’s a man in my house, holding a gun to my head on the order of my ex-husband—given from his prison cell.
That hotheaded soldier I was too afraid to choose? He’s now a six-foot-three wall of muscle who works at the country’s most premier bodyguard agency. I’ve always wanted him, but now, I’ve never needed him more.
It’s the call I’m terrified to make.
I’m sure he still hates me… Even though I’ve never stopped loving him.

Originally from Savannah, Georgia, USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez now lives in South Carolina with her four young children.
Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys cheap wine, mystery leggings, and baked feta. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person.
She passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a super-sized tumbler of wine by her side.
This is book 2 in the series, yet my first book by his author. I never would have known it was the second though, maybe I just didn’t know what I was missing (and I will definitely go back and read book 1), but this book felt like its own world. A second chance romance that in a way was also an enemies to lovers. Jeremy and Mira left off 17 years ago in a bad place, neither thought they would ever see each other again and yet here we are.
This book sucks you and keeps you on the edge of your seat, the action/suspense is so so great. It is my favorite genre of romance for a reason and this one did not disappoint in that department.
I also love watching Jeremy with his co-workers/friends…it was a great element that I am sure is incorporated throughout the entire series and added a much needed aspect.
Jeremy and Mira get to fall in love all over and really realize that they were never over the other…and not that it took long to see the feelings coming tot he surface, but it was appreciated that it wasn’t a rushed thing and that we didn’t just see them jump into bed together and had them pretend the past 17 years hadn’t happened. Jeremy’s anger was justified as she did walk away from him and yet, I think his anger was more that he was mad at himself for still being hung up on her.
This book flows nicely and again sucks you in. It is a nice balance of suspense and sweet (being friendship and romance).
