We all have one.

A price.

That magic number that will get us to agree to do anything, be anything.

Don’t sit on your gold-plated high horse and say you don’t because you do. Everyone does. Each of us has something we covet enough that we’d sell ourselves to have it.

What’s my tipping point, you ask? Apparently a cool quarter mil will do the trick.

What does one do for 250 large, you wonder? Anything the infamous, gorgeous playboy of Seattle wants. For the next four months I’ll be Shaw Mercer’s arm candy, his beck and call girl, his faux girlfriend. I’ll be his to command, mold, push and pull in any direction he sees fit.

I’ll fight falling into bed with him. I’ll fight falling in love with him even harder. I’ll fail at both. And when my past and present collide in the most unexpected of ways, I’ll learn that while one man’s love for me has never died, the only man’s love I really want will never be mine.

About the Author:

As a USA Today Bestselling author, I write stories that are deeply emotional with flawed characters, because humans ARE flawed and if we read about perfect characters living in their perfect world, first of all, snoozer, but secondly, we never experience the gratification of redemption.

Outside of writing, I’m just a regular ol’ Midwest girl who likes Game of Thrones and am obsessed with Modern Family and The Goldbergs. I run, I eat, I run, I eat. It’s a vicous cycle. I love carbs, but there’s love-hate relationship with my ass and thighs. Mostly hate. I like a good cocktail (oh hell…who am I kidding? I love any cocktail). I’m a huge creature of habit, but I’ll tell you I’m flexible. I read every single day and if I don’t get a chance…watch the hell out. My iPad and me: BFFs. I’m direct and I make no apologies for it. I swear too much. I love alternative music and in my next life I want to be a bad-ass female rocker. I hate, hate, hate spiders, telemarketers, liver, acne, winter and loose hairs that fall down my shirt (don’t ask, it’s a thing).

Shaw will be your new book boyfriend.  He is everything a girl would want in a guy….he is sweet and charming and loveable and yet he isn’t perfect.  I love how he looks after his sister and how close he and Noah have always have been.  They were known for sharing women.

But I love how Willow came into the picture…what started as Shaw hitting her car turned in to Noah meeting her while she was on a job which turned into her being his fake girlfriend.  He hadn’t been able to get her out of his mind since the car accident.  Willow is so feisty and I just love that aspect of female leads in stories. Willow only has her mom left and she suffers from Alzheimer’s, and Willow is working as an escort (not sex involved) to make money to care for her.

Both Shaw and Willow are good people and it is so easy to fall in love with them as individuals as well as as a couple.  Read this and you will not be disappointed.  #Shawismine

Cuffs and Ballers by S.J. Bishop

Cuffs & Ballers.jpg
Jax and Treena were high school sweethearts, then Jax when off to college and ended up leaving Treena behind.  She was heartbroken.
Luck would have it that she would run into him when she got a new job as a detective in New York where Jax was a star football player.  While she vowed to stay away from him, she couldn’t…until he gets accused of a murder and of course she is one of the lead detectives on the case.
Will this break them or make them stronger, will she prove his innocence or did he commit the terrible murder of his ex-wife.  Will Treena be able to cut it as a detective in the “man’s world”.  This is a book that has great romance and second chances but gives us a bunch of suspense as well.  I think it has a little bit of everything and once you start you will have to see how it all ends.

Torn by Mia Ford

Sandy wants revenge for the death of her fiancé….Rick is the man she is after.  But when she meets him at his bar he is nothing like what she imagined.  Is she able to get her revenge or will love win out?
This is a shorter book so of course the “romancing relationship” aspect is on the quick side, but the book flows very well and you can feel the chemistry between them, and also find the part of Sandy that is very torn.
I like that it isn’t all sunshine and roses though and we get to see her struggle and see how everything plays out.  I wouldn’t call Rick your typical “bad boy” though as he was only ever perfect with Sandy!  This is a great, quick read!

The Story of Us by D. Nichole King

**Review at the end

Story of Us, The - d. Nichole King.jpgTHE STORY OF US by d. Nichole King
Release Date: Feb. 9, 2017
Genre: NA Contemporary Romance

Every life is made of thousands of them, each one strung together with the next. Some are yellow and happy, some are blue and sad, and some…

Some wipe out color altogether.

“I love you,” is what I should have told Maverick.

“I’m sorry.”

“I’m still fighting.”

Instead I just watched him leave.

Now my husband, my everything is battling for each breath, and all I can do is stare at the machines as the clock ticks off precious minutes.

The doctors said the first twenty-four hours are critical—but every moment is critical.

You never know which will be your last.

This is our story, and I’m not ready for it to end.

Available on Kindle Unlimited!

I’m cold sitting in one of the waiting rooms in the ICU. Maverick is still in surgery, the nurse tells me. They’ll come get me once he’s in his room. It shouldn’t be too much longer. No one else is close by. It’s just me and my thoughts.

It’s strange the things you think of to distract yourself from the real reason you’re sitting here. Me, I focus on the oil painting on the wall. Wonder how many people have stared at it and wanted to tear it down. How many liked it. Has anyone noticed that it leans a little to the left or that there’s an inconsistency in the corners of the wooden frame? Did anyone deliberate why this painting?

I’m sure it’s meant to calm the people who look at it. Doesn’t everyone find a lake dotted with sailboats calming? But the colors are all wrong. They don’t soothe me. They’re bright and bold and demanding. There’s too much crimson, too dark of navy.

I have to turn away from it. There’re magazines on the tables, but they scream at me too. Loud headlines of celebrities with large divorce settlements, jail time, and plastic surgery. The science ones boast of the newest medical advances and archeological finds. What they don’t realize is that in here, life beyond these walls no longer exists. In here, there’re only three things that matter: life, death, and the battle between them.

I shiver again. I should have brought warmer clothes.

Hugging my knees to my chest, I focus on the fake plant in the corner. There are no windows in this area, which is how I know it’s fake. It might be a fern of some sort, I don’t know. The leaves are long and skinny, but again, the color is wrong for this place.

I shift my attention to the hallway. In here, the lights are dim, but out there they’re on full and reflecting off of the cream floor. There’s a nurse at the nurses’ station, sitting behind a computer. She’s different from the one before. A moment later, another walks up to the desk. They keep hushed voices, and I hear nothing. The one at the computer lifts her eyes to me and when she meets my gaze, she offers a sympathetic smile. I don’t smile back.

I lower my head until my cheek rests on my arms, and I close my eyes. My skin is ice against my face. Cold is what it means to be alone, and right now, I’ve never felt more alone. Alone, but not lonely. No, because being lonely is different than being alone. Lonely is a fleeting state that ends. When Finley gets here, I’ll no longer be lonely, yet without Mav, I’ll still be alone.

I think about the happy moments Mav and I shared. Our time in Cancun. The dance under the stars. His smile. His silly pet name for me.

That was us. The whole, take-on-the-world, in-love us.

The us before we broke.

I cried, and I cried and I cried…this book will do a number on your emotions in the best possible way. Nothing is better then a book that gets you right in the feelings.

It rotates between past and present tense in each chapter. It is about how Maverick and Ali met and fell in love and ultimately became THEM. It starts when Maverick is in a coma…Ali won’t leave his side. Her best friend Finley is there throughout the entire story, back when Mav and Ali meet in Cancun until the end of the book.

This book is one that you can really put yourself in the shoes of Ali and imagine what it would be like. The details that D. Nichole put into this just rip your heart out.

While I would call this a romance book, and it tells the story between man and woman, I would also call this a love story between two friends. It is a love story about seeing things in color vs. black and white.

This is the first book I have read by D. Nichole King but it will definitely NOT be the last!

North Star by M.E. Montgomery

I did not now what to expect from this book, but right from the beginning it drew me in.  It is amazing what a 5 year old boy can do.  Aiden loses his parents and lives with his uncle Alex.  They are both broken and lost…one night at a bar Alex happens to meet Kayla who literally falls in his lap, and while she walked away that day, fate had bigger things in store for them.
Kayla is keeping a close watch on her heart after the last man she was with shattered her…Alex somehow wiggles his way into her heart in ways she never imagined and Aiden helped to play a piece in it.
This is a very moving story of overcoming loss and finding someone who can help you become a better person.  You smile when they smile and you hurt for them when they are upset.  You will not want this book to end…and then it does and you are left with a massive hole plus a huge cliffhanger!

Buttons and Hate by Penelope Sky

This is book 2 of 3 in the series and I think it is better then book 1.  I always love seeing the softer side of Crow and despite what he would say I love seeing him fall for Pearl.  I also enjoyed seeing his brother Cane, and why he isn’t a “nice guy” this book showed me a different side of him also.  But Pearl, I think she is the strongest woman ever.  This book is a roller coaster as always and will leave you on the edge of your seat and will have to barely hanging on until the final book comes out.

Penelope has a way of writing that sucks you in from the very first page, and by the end you are not ready for it to end.  There are some dark topics but overall I feel this one is SLIGHTLY lighter then book 1.  But she was still sold and then kidnapped, so we can’t forget that she is a victim to Crow.

This is a MUST READ series of the year!

Cold Hearted by Winter Renshaw

This is the story of Rhett and Ayla.  Ayla goes to New York to settle her estranged half-brother’s estate (estranged is being nice since he refused to get to know her), she meets Rhett who was teammates with her brother.  Rhett USED to be best friends with the brother, but his death happened with the death of HIS fiancée, so he is PISSED.  Ayla doesn’t tell Rhett the truth and yet he wants a no strings relationship so while she tried to tell him multiple times he didn’t want to hear it.  But I also don’t think it is fair to judge Ayla because of her half-brother either.  But yet, I get why he was upset by finding out the truth.
When he finds out is where it becomes a little rushed.  His brother Locke suddenly has a daughter and wants to settle down.  Ayla, can’t move on from Rhett and yet has becoming a best-selling author.  Rhett, he can’t forgive her for the lie but suddenly he can’t live without her…I do get that he loves her and his brother having a daughter and wanting a family opened his eyes, but I honestly wish we had more of them working their way back together instead of her just giving in and having sex with him.  He needed to understand why she had waited to tell him, he needed to win her trust as well…there were a lot of ways the story could have progressed before the end.
That said, I had trouble putting this book down as Winter is a great writer. I liked their chemistry and I liked that no matter what they were drawn to each other.  Rhett couldn’t help but want to be around Ayla and she helped him heal in a way from the deaths.
