Secrets and lies are a killer way to start any partnership—especially a horizontal one.

Now, I’m a glass half full kinda of guy, so, after the ‘you’re fired’ speech was directed at me, I figure now’s the time to be the screenwriter I came to sunny California to be. Unfortunately, there are about as many people trying to sell a script in L.A. as there are vegans in the pacific northwest.

But lucky for me, a few weeks ago my agent found an investor for my script. Hooray, all my problems are solved! NOT.

Because the investor will only agree to fund my film if I use one specific actress. And that one specific actress? Well of course, it just has to be the same actress I screwed over only months before. But she doesn’t need to know about that one tiny detail, does she? All that matters is getting her to agree to do the film and I’ll do whatever it takes. We can leave the past, in the past, right?

I thought my charm would win her over. Never would I have been prepared for the terms she laid out on the table.

She needed a nanny.
I needed a lead actress.
Somehow I became The Manny.

Piper Rayne, or Piper and Rayne, whichever you prefer because we’re not one author, we’re two. Yep, you get two established authors for the price of one. You might be wondering if you know us? Maybe you’ll read our books and figure it out. Maybe you won’t. Does it really matter?

We aren’t trying to stamp ourselves with a top-secret label. We wanted to write without apology. We wanted to not be pigeon holed into a specific outline. We wanted to give readers a story without them assuming how the story will flow. Everyone has their favorite authors, right? And when you pick up their books, you expect something from them. Whether it’s an alpha male, heavy angst, a happily ever after, there’s something you are absolutely certain the book will contain. Heck, we’re readers, too, we get it.
What can we tell you about ourselves? We both have kindle’s full of one-clickable books. We’re both married to husbands who drive us to drink. We’re both chauffeurs to our kids. Most of all, we love hot heroes and quirky heroines that make us laugh, and we hope you do, too.

review

Holy smokes….I love Vance and Layla and even Payne and Via and everyone else in this book. This is overall a great light-hearted fun book with that little bit of angst to give it that little something extra.

Vance could be my many at any time. He formed a bond with Payne from the first minute and you could feel the willpower Payne had with his nanny fade away with how Vance interacted with him. I don’t see how Layla couldn’t fall for him with how he was with her as well as her kids.

Vance is finally trying to get his script made into a movie, but the backer insists on Layla playing the lead role. She asked him to play manny for a week while she found a new nanny and she would agree to do his movie. But somewhere in that week, things go serious between Payne and Vance even and Layla saw the bond they formed.

I was waiting for the shoe to drop throughout and his past to come to light and while it did, it wasn’t necessarily in the way I thought it would, and I like that. These authors really keep you on your toes while cracking you up at the same time. The writing flowed nicely and you get very engrossed in this book and can’t believe when the end rolls around.

April Hamilton wants you to know she hasn’t been on Craigslist since that time she sold her futon after college. She doesn’t even spend that much time online. And even if she did, she would not be looking up personal ads. But going home alone for her family’s summer reunion is an invitation for every single relative to butt into her personal life. She simply can’t handle another blind date with the butcher, the baker or the candlestick maker from her hometown. So when she finds the Craigslist ad for a boyfriend-for-hire, she’s ready to pay to play.

Heading Home and Need a Buffer? I’m the REAL DEAL.

Theo Banks has been running from the past for years. He’s this close to finally settling all his debts, and one more job as a boyfriend-for-hire will do the trick. He’s no gigolo. Please. He’s something of an actor, and he knows how to slip into any role, including pretending to be April’s new beau — the bad boy with the heart of gold.

Even if it means sleeping in close quarters in that tiny little bed in her parents’ inn. Even if it means spinning tales of a romance that starts to feel all too true. She only wanted to show her family once and for all that she had no need to settle down.

He didn’t expect to have the time of his life at her parent’s home.

Synopsis

Rules have never been more fun to break…

Sherry

I’m going to die an old maid with ten cats… Oh wait, I already have two…
I’m never going to feel the arms of a man around my waist again… Well, that’s what I thought until a pair caught me from face planting on the floor of my OB/GYN’s office. I didn’t even notice that my paper gown was open, showing off my double lattes to the man I was least expecting… Greyson Davis is the reason I need to set boundaries and rules—rules that I can’t break.

Greyson

The first thing you’re taught in ethics class is not to fall for a patient. They don’t teach you how to not fall for one, just said that you shouldn’t. Everything changed the second I walked in to see my sixth patient of the day. That’s when I set eyes on the sexy blonde bombshell who would cause me to break every rule ever written.

Review

What a great rom com…there were just so many funny lines. Greyson is such a sweet and caring guy that you can’t help but love him. There is just something about Sherry that draws you in and you wish you could be her friend and then when you find out how big her heart is, she moves into your heart even more. Her loving cats also gives her bonus points.

This book is so well written and therefore it is so easy to want to just sit and read the entire book in one sitting, and since it flows well and is light-hearted it is an easy thing to do. I don’t think I fully knew what I was getting into with this book, but I don’t consider that a bad thing.

Rules are meant to be broken is a good motto for this book I think since it fits so well. But it is so fun watching them break down walls and break the rules together. Sherry and Greyson are so much fun together…she wanted to resist him. But seriously from their first encounter with her embarrassment you will be laughing out loud.

“One

“You got a

“You do,”
Finn interjects, giving me a narrowed glare. “They aren’t any better than

Branch

“My sister

“No shit?”
His face puckers like he just bit into a lemon. “How in the hell did that

“He didn’t.
We’re not together anymore.”
Branch’s

“You better

“Finn,

“I know you

Misadventures Of A City Girl by Meredith Wild and Chelle Bliss

Misadventures of a City Girl

I thought this book would be full of humor and while it had some humor (ie their first encounter for example) it was so much more then that. In a way it is about self-discovery, what really matters to you and at the end of the day can one person really have it all? Luke first sees Madison pleasuring herself in “his” hot springs but of course doesn’t say anything, but she catches him. She then finds his cabin and him taking care of business. What follows is very sexual and yet two broken people who are not sure what they want or what they are even missing.

This book is really sex and on the hotter side, so as long as that doesn’t bother you this is a great book. And while we don’t get into TOO much details we see two broken people, her fresh off of a divorce and him a retired Navy SEAL who doesn’t feel he can ever fit in with “normal” people. What they do is bring out a different side of the other one. But she is a city girl and he is a mountain man…and neither fully feels comfortable in the other person’s world. With some ups and downs can they make something lasting?

The book flows, and while again it doesn’t go into to many details it gives you enough to fully understand why Luke and Madison are the way they are. It was a very enjoyable read.

EXCERPT

“Did you go out a lot in Frankfurt?” I ask because I’m still curious to hear more about her time over there. “Did those German blokes you flirted with for tips show you a nice time?”
She twists her head to frown up at me, puzzling her brows at my random question. “Are we really going to talk about this?”
I shrug because, well, now that I’ve opened the can, I don’t really want to stuff it all back in. “Did you leave anyone behind broken hearted?”
“No,” she murmurs and a tense silence stretches out before us. “What about you? You have a girlfriend I should know about?”
I roll my eyes. “I wouldn’t have invited you to stay if I had a girlfriend.”
“Why’s that?”
“Because…look at you,” I scoff.
That tense silence returns, but this time I can hear her breathing. I can feel the rise and fall of her shoulders as she leans against me.
Her voice is soft when she asks, “What do you mean, look at you?”
I tug on my earlobe, feeling a stirring in my stomach that doesn’t have anything to do with the massive amounts of whiskey I consumed tonight. “I think it’s quite obvious, Poppy. You’re not merely a girl anymore. You’re…a woman. And that haircut. I don’t know. It just…suits you.”
She turns her head up and looks at me curiously. I return her gaze, noting the light dusting of freckles across the bridge of her nose. I don’t think I’ve ever noticed those before. She draws my eyes downward as she licks her lips and a warmth spreads between us.
All of the sudden, she sits up, pulling me out of the trance I have on her lips as she situates herself crisscross to face me. I inhale deeply as her hand slides into my hair right above my ear. “Looks like you could use a cut,” she croaks, combing through the thick locks. I expect her to pull away, but she lingers, her scent wafting over me. My eyes fall closed as she slices through every strand and traces her fingertips along the nerve endings on my scalp, massaging in slow, languid movements.
God, that feels good.
My head nods to the side as I slur, “I’ve missed you, Poppy.”
She exhales. “I’ve missed you, too, Booker.”
“No, I mean, I’ve seriously missed you.” Groaning from her touch, I add, “I put one of my lamps in your room. I know how you hate the dark.”
Silence ensues, so my eyes lazily open and find she’s watching me.
“I don’t know why I said that just now,” I husk.
Her hand falls away from my head, but I catch it with mine because, well, I’m not ready for her to stop touching me yet. I want to be close to her like we always used to be.
I slide my fingers between hers, loving the softness of her hands against the hardness of mine, the smallness of hers against the largeness of mine. She feels so good against my skin. I never want to lose Poppy again. I’ve missed having her near me like this.
Aching for more, I pull her to me. Her legs unfold as she tucks into my chest, one hand over my heart, the other still entwined with mine. She nestles into me like she did when we were kids and she’d been crying about one of the many animals that died at her dad’s clinic.
Pressing her nose into my chest, her shoulders rise as she inhales deeply. I can feel her warm breath through the fabric of my shirt and it feels good. Really good. I want her mouth to open so her breath goes from warm to hot. I want her lips to part, and I want to feel her tongue on my body. On me. Flesh against flesh.
I crook my finger beneath her chin and lift her face to mine. She looks beautiful. Familiar and comfortable, like a memory that I once lost. I lower my head so we’re eye-to-eye and softly brush her lips with mine. It’s a kiss of friendship. Of history. Of knowing someone so completely that you assume you know what their lips will taste like before you even touch them.
But I didn’t know.
I had no fucking idea.

Review

6 years, what can happen in 6 years? Some things change and some things stay the same. Poppy and Booker have obviously grown a lot in the past 6 years and can’t help but notice the other’s “differences” and yet you can see the spark that was between them and why they were best friends all those years ago. Poppy still fits right in with the Harris clan and in that aspect it seems like no time has passed.

The author is so good at writing this awkward friendship but having feelings with something almost happening story. Booker feels like he is never good enough, even for his best friend. And while Poppy has been in love with Booker for years, she doesn’t think he can ever think of her as more then his best friend. But you see their feelings and chemistry on each page, and you also understand how both of them feel. The push and pull between them is very nicely written and you can’t help but love these two together. I feel their relationship has a natural progression throughout the book, and the 6 year gap adds some nice “drama” in that they don’t know what the other had done, etc. It had them reconnect in a way, which was a nice treat.

While this is not the first book in the series, it can be read as a stand alone. You have appearances of the rest of the Harris clan from the other books, but you won’t feel lost with this one.

Review

A best friend’s little sister book – CHECK
A sports romance – CHECK
A Cocky Hero – CHECK

This book has some of everything that I love in a book. Branch is a hot, cocky ball player and Layla is a feisty heroine. You can’t help but love the two of them as individuals. But what else this book has going for it is the side characters. The author is so good at making you want more of them as well and you can’t help but be drawn into every aspect of this book. Watching these characters grow throughout the book is one of the best things about it honestly. You love them both and just want them to be the best version of themselves, whether that means together or apart.

The writing flows nicely and really engages you from the very first page. There are no skipped details and you can really see yourself emerged into this world that the author has created and you want to know these characters.

Nothing makes me happier though in a book when the guy messes up and it isn’t an easy fix. Especially when that guy is super cocky and confident. And Branch messes up, and yet it fits the character and I love the fall out from it, and then watching him pick up the pieces and try to fix things. I love that Layla didn’t give him an easy way out.

I loved Branch and Layla from their first meeting, and despite Finn’s warnings, you can’t help who you are drawn to. You can feel their chemistry, as well as the hesitation (rightfully so), but sometimes things are just meant to be. I do wish Layla wouldn’t have been so quick to draw conclusions, but yet, isn’t that what we as humans do at times, draw our own ideas without finding out the truth first.

Poppy is that best friend we all wish we had. And I can’t help but love her and Finn and their interactions with both Branch and Layla. Again, you can’t help but love all of the supporting characters in this book.
