The highest stakes…
My father gambles every night, falling deeper and deeper into debt. When he hits the bottom, he places a new bet: his daughter. I’m his entry bet to the biggest underground poker game.
Every kind of danger circles the velvet-covered table, but only one man makes me tremble.
A trailer park princess.
The son of a criminal king.
We don’t belong together, but I’m caught in a twisted game.
His eyes meet mine with dark promise. And when he puts down his cards, I know I’m going to lose more than my body. I’m going to lose everything.

About the Author:
Skye Warren is the New York Times bestselling author of contemporary romance such as the Chicago Underground series. Her books have been featured in Jezebel, Buzzfeed, USA Today Happily Ever After, Glamour, and Elle Magazine. She makes her home in Texas with her loving family, two sweet dogs, and one evil cat.
I love that this book ends up back where The Castle took place, it gives us that other perspective. Damon and Penny are both so haunted, and Damon knows he shouldn’t want Penny, but he can’t help it. It is and will always be her for him. Penny has had a hard life, and Damon tried to help her when she was little, but some things in life are really just set out for you.
You can really see Damon fighting things and you can see the good and the bad within him, but you can always see that soft spot for Penny. And while she may want to fight it, she is just as attracted to Damon. Penny is only 15 in this book, so while we don’t get sexual intimacy, I feel like there is intimacy in a different form, you can see the connection between them through Skye’s writing.
Skye has such a way with words that you just feel so drawn in to the story. The only thing I would change would be to add more about Damon as I really did feel a majority of this was focused on Penny’s past, etc but I have a feeling that The Queen will cover this. A dark read that you won’t be able to put down and you will feel for both Damon and Penny throughout this story.
